The New Netflix Player Has One Major Flaw

Have you ever tried the Netflix DVD service? Pretty cool, except for the occasional scratched disc. Then they came out with the Watch Now feature, where you can watch movies on your PC through Internet Explorer (with a broadband connection).

So, now they have the Netflix Player. A set-top box that allows you to get those Watch Now movies on your TV. The box costs $100 and here's a quote from crave.cnet.com:

We've been playing with the Netflix Player for about two weeks, and--for the most part--we found a lot to like. Setup is simple, and--if you've got a solid broadband connection--picture quality is acceptable and streaming performance was almost entirely lag-free.

There's one major flaw though. Netflix's Watch Now service has a severely limited content repertoire. I know, I was a trial member and was very disappointed with the selection. This problem is apparently due to an overly strict licensing system by "Hollywood". What's new? Unless the powers-that-be lighten up and permit you to view all of Netflix's over 100,000 titles, I'd give this new product a miss.

Memory Cards are sold as multi media cards, dual voltage, compact flash and USB flash memory cards. Phone straps are another design choice, some coming with balls, beads, hooks, or letters of the alphabet. Cellular batteries are made for different models and come with leather cases and antennas. It's also possible to change a keypad, if it becomes faded or damaged, with another one or a flashing variety. Micro thin screen protectors reduce glare as well as protecting from scratches.

Have you ever had to transfer your contacts from one phone to another? Time consuming, I know. I've had to do it a couple of times myself. So, when I read a review of the Backup Pal, I was, of course, very interested. It seems that the Backup Pal can back-up or transfer your contact list from one phone to another with one click, without a PC.

What a concept.

Backup Pal is portable and battery operated, so you could conceivably bring it with you when you get a new phone, and transfer your contacts right on the spot. Coming equipped with many adapters, the Back Up pal is compatible with many phones, and has been (purportedly) designed to accommodate new phones as they appear on the market.

I know I'm going to get one.

Do you remember The Sound Of Music? You remember, the one where Julie Andrews plays a nun who leaves the convent to be a governess to those 7 cute kids. Well I remember. The picturesque Austrian Alps, the beautiful songs (I know you remember: Doe a deer, a female deer, ray, a drop of golden sun...) and all the kid's antics.

Led Zeppelin Reunion Ticket Goes For $168,500

I was a Zeppelin head in the 70's. Dazed And Confused was not just a title of one of Led Zeppelin's songs--it was a way of life. When I read that Kenneth Donnell paid $168,500 for tickets to today's show, I was not confused... dazed maybe, but not confused.

You see, a Led Zeppelin reunion would be an amazing experience for anyone to see, especially if your father told you how magical the concerts of the 70's were. And although John Bonham died in 1980, his son Jason, will make some noise!

Even though Led Zeppelin did not make music for everyone (they left that to the Bee Gees), I wish I was there...

Anyway, back to reality. If anyone has a video or sound of the event, let me know.

Elin, Tiger Woods' Wife, Gets An Apology

I had forgotten about the episode with Elin Woods, wife of Tiger Woods, and the Irish magazine The Dubliner, until I read today that she won a lawsuit against them for libel.

For those who don't remember, in September 2006 when Ireland was hosting the Ryder Cup, The Dubliner published a nasty article claiming that Elin Woods was "Ryder Cup filth." and showed a nude photo that was supposed to be her. It wasn't

Good for her. These rags should be punished for attacking celebrities (and their wives) with false claims and fake photos.

Can you believe this quote from Trevor White, the publisher?

Evel Knievel Passed Away Yesterday

I was stunned and a bit saddened when I heard the news... Evel Knievel died yesterday. It's a sad day for all daredevildom. "Evil" was a sort of hero to me when I was growing up--I wanted to emulate his motorcycle stunts with my Stingray bicycle. And I begged my mother to get me a mini bike--she finally broke down and got me one, which launched my long dirt bike riding "career".

Evel Knievel will be remembered as the definition of daredevil--look up the word in a dictionary, and I wouldn't be surprised if you see his name. I'll never forget watching the Caesars Palace jump on TV. Evel Knievel launches into the air, flies over the fountain, hits the landing ramp hard and... goes over the bars. It was gruesome to watch.
